Acne is a dermatologic disease, and not just a cosmetic problem, which is characterized by obstruction and inflammation of the sebaceous glands and the tissues around them.
With acne on the face, back and chest, the inflammatory elements are formed such as pustules, nodules (less than 5 mm in diameter) and knots (more than 5 mm in diameter), and non-inflammatory elements – comedones or blackheads ("black spots") and whiteheads ("white spots"), red pimples - papules, and sometimes more severe manifestations - cysts, abscesses and scars. Greasy shine appears on the face on the T-zone (it is the glabella, the transition from the nose to the cheeks, chin). With self-pressure to acne there remain scarring and erosion. Sometimes it may form keloid scars (the scars with increased formation of connective tissue).
The most common form of acne is acne vulgaris. In adolescents, this form occurs most frequently. Excess production of cutaneous fatty secretion by sebaceous glands fills the pores with dead epidermal cells blocking the cutaneous follicles. The accumulation of dead cells in the ducts is due to violation of keratinization which usually leads to scaling off the cells. Sebum is delayed under blocked pores providing a perfect breeding ground for microorganisms.
One of the areas of prevention and treatment of acne is the use of external means which reduce inflammation, cleanse the pores and inhibit the reproduction of microorganisms.
